Coffee and biscuits are often provided after the Eucharist on Sundays. One of the sisters or regular guests will invite you to join them.
There is information on the table in the Abbey Church Guest Chapel indicating whether the ordinary books or the saints and feasts books are to be used. A large print edition is also available on request from the guest sister.
How to Participate
- Please sit on the benches anywhere in the guest chapel.
- We have inherited a monastic tradition of giving both guests and nuns a view of the altar but not of each other. This provides an element of privacy whilst uniting us in prayer.
- The architecture of the Church and the nature of the chant hinders guests from joining in, so please follow the office silently.
- You can follow in the office book or just let it wash over you, allowing yourself to be carried by our prayer. You will hear a reading from our lectionary – the short reading printed in the office book is for those using the book when travelling.
- Please sit, stand or kneel as you desire – there is no right or wrong way.
Information for Newcomers
